A “Throw Back Thursday” (TBT) post to not too long ago when we received a letter detailing exactly how donations raised during Pedaling for Possibilities and Giving Hearts Day funded an iPad that changed a woman’s life.

After working with IPAT staff, Judy Wall, a woman with low vision, determined Assistive Technology (AT) was what she needed to get back to doing the things she loves to do! Through Possibilities Grant dollars (raised by donations from people all across the state of ND and Red River Valley) she was able to get an iPad that helped her accomplish all of her goals, and then some!

Dear Pedaling for Possibilities Members: Receiving the iPad has so many feelings of gratefulness and expectation – like I have seen an iceberg and now I’m going to begin exploring the wonders below. The loss of part of my vision is now able to be retrieved by adjusting size of images, letters, colors of background, letters – still learning what is available for vision impaired.

Oh, Oh, Oh! Precious family members are no longer hundreds of miles away. What fun for grandmas – little bit close to heaven all the time. Using the iPad will give me easier access to medical assistance – order medicine, or ask necessary questions. Since I enjoy crafts, quilting, and painting, YouTube has a wealth of information. I also have just watched items on YouTube only to relax: butterflies, roses, sweet peas, sunflowers. Photography is another field I will be able to explore. Taking photos has been an enjoyment, no I wish to learn how to file, crop, and be able to send them.

Perhaps I may be able to sell some of my items or paintings. There are also several extra items around the house that could be used in starting a small business. Possibilities await! My self-esteem is being built up by being able to enter back into the electronic world. I have much to learn and it will continue to be an ongoing process. For us not so young, I believe it will keep us at a lower memory loss. I could go on and on – I owe it all to persons who keep their hearts open to help others learn. Thank you! Judy Wall
