Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and communication disorders.
They often use what’s called Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC refers to tools people use so others can understand what they intend to communicate.
Our SLP, Ronni Kupris, can assess, recommend, and help people use AAC to support or replace verbal communication. She understands and can teach use of AAC systems that range from low technology (e.g., sign language, communication boards) to high technology (e.g., iPad with a communication application, eye gaze on a speech generating device).
Sometimes, these systems take time to learn and understand. Ronni’s exceptional at helping people learn how to use their AAC systems. She’s also a great collaborator with other professionals like OTs, PTs, and other caregivers who will need to know the systems to help users understand the best access point for the AAC user, program devices to fit the client’s needs, and monitor progress and adjust the communication system as needed.

The assistance we can provide in this space is vast.
It can start with a demonstration of the many AAC devices we have on hand at our demonstration centers. And that can lead to a short-term trial loan so you can test the device out before taking steps to acquire it.
We can also provide in-depth analysis and assessment of the situation and offer suggestions about the best alternatives. Those assessments can happen in the home, school, or workplace to ensure the tools will work in the environment they’ll be used.
To start a conversation about how to move forward, click on the orange Contact Us! button at the top of this (and every) page. We’ll get back to you soon to set up an initial conversation.
Initial services like a demonstration and device loan are free. Additional items like assessments are covered by most insurances and often school districts, with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will pay for the assessment and necessary devices.
