Welcome to Our New Accessible Kitchen at North Dakota Assistive in our Bismarck Demonstration Center!
At North Dakota Assistive, we believe that the heart of every home is the kitchen. It’s where families gather, meals are shared, and memories are made. But for individuals with disabilities or those experiencing age-related limitations, the kitchen can present unique challenges. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new accessible kitchen at our Bismarck Demonstration Center!

Your Independence, Your Choice
At North Dakota Assistive, our mission is to help people live where and how they choose. “No one should feel forced into a living situation because their home isn’t accessible,” Mike emphasized. “This kitchen is one more way we’re helping people stay independent and in the place they love.”
Come visit our new accessible kitchen at the Bismarck Demonstration Center! Whether you’re curious about adaptive kitchen tools or just want to explore the possibilities, we’re here to help. Schedule an appointment or stop by to see firsthand how assistive technology can transform everyday life.
What Makes This Kitchen Special?
This kitchen isn’t just a display – it’s a hands-on experience. From adjustable countertops and pull-down shelving to faucets and appliances designed for easy use, the kitchen is built to accommodate individuals of all abilities. Whether someone uses a wheelchair, experiences limited mobility, or simply wants to age in place, this kitchen demonstrates how small adjustments can lead to big improvements in quality of life.
“Someone in a wheelchair or an older adult can access everything,” Mike said. “They can roll right under the sink to turn on the faucet or easily reach items in the cupboards. It’s all about creating independence.”
Try Before You Buy
One of the best parts of our accessible kitchen is that visitors can try out the devices before deciding if they’re right for their home. “We let people borrow some of the devices, just like a library,” Mike noted. “That way, they can test things out in their own space before making an investment.”
From weighted silverware and easy-grip utensils to specialized cutting tools and adaptive gadgets, there is something for everyone. “There are so many versions of assistive tools,” Mike added. “Big handles, small handles, rocking knives – it’s important to find what works best for each person.”
Who Can Benefit?
This accessible kitchen is designed for a wide range of people, including:
Individuals with disabilities
Older adults experiencing mobility or sensory changes
Caregivers looking for solutions to help loved ones maintain independence
“Even if you don’t consider yourself to have a disability, aging can present new challenges,” Mike explained. “This kitchen is for anyone looking to make their home more accessible, comfortable, and safe.”
