Inside the historic Maddock Opera House off Main Street, Beth Olson visits with friends and neighbors. Beth works for the Alzheimer’s Association and as a volunteer North Dakota Assistive Ambassador. She’s packed the house for us to share information and resources on assistive technology. What she doesn’t know. We’re here to surprise her.

“Like I say, I talk about a lot of the tools that you guys brought today to to show I believe in them because they help people immensely,” said 2024 Assistive Technology Champion Beth Olson.

Beth continues to go above and beyond in sharing assistive technology wherever her job takes her.

“I am passionate and I think people don’t know about these services in our state,” said Beth. “We have so many free available services in our state and this is just one of them that people should know more about.”

North Dakota Assistive Executive Director Mike Chaussee describes Beth’s passion and enthusiasm as “off the charts.”

“She’s hosted events in her community. She’s invited us to her town,” said Chaussee.

Plus, you know, when you’re around her, there’s it’s a little magical.

You can just tell that she’s got that it factor when it comes to dealing with people and helping people in her community.

“So April 17th is National Assistive Technology Awareness Day across the country.

We need to recognize what we consider assistive technology champions. And so in the history of of our state we’ve had two of those. And today, I’d like to recognize Beth Olson as our third.

So this is kind of a big deal for us.

We’re so appreciative of the fact that we were invited here today. and like you just need to know, like we talk about you weekly, thank you so much for what you do and having us here today.

And like I said, there’s only three of you,” said Chaussee.

Our visit to Maddock became front page news in the Benson County Farmers Press. The article was written by, you guessed it, Beth Olson.
