We work with a lot of assistive technology (AT) devices here at, Assistive. Some of this AT not only increases independence , but can actually save a life. One of our very own board members, Carol Anhorn, discovered this.
“As a marketing professional for more than 30 years, I have often been asked to serve on non-profit boards. But my service for the board of Assistive, formerly IPAT, holds a special place in my heart. Assistive literally helped save my mother’s life, or at least kept her out of the hospital. Mom was taking lots of different medications and after ending up in the hospital a couple of times from mixing up medications, an AT consultant from Assistive recommended a locked, alarmed pill dispenser machine. It worked! We loaded the dispenser weekly and never had another hospital stay from medication complications. Later we utilized the same device for my father after a brain injury. This device kept my parents independent and out of the nursing home, which was the alternative we were facing…”
