Regardless if you have one hand or two, tremors from Parkinson’s, or other disabilities such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, being safe in the kitchen is a must. Tasks such as cutting, chopping and spreading can be very difficult and unsafe when a person has physical disabilities that affect their fine motor skills. Fortunately there are several products available to help us with those tasks.
Onion/Vegetable Choppers
Choppers of this type still require strength to push the veggies through or to push your hand on the device, but they eliminate all of the fine movements chopping and reduce the danger of getting cut.

Rocker Knives
There are a various knives of this type that allow one to just perform a rocking motion with their wrist to cut versus using a knife and fork.
Utensil Holders
Universal utensil holders can hold a fork and/or knife to your hand with a strap, to help you hang on during cutting. Some even have weights, which may help cutting if you have tremors.
Weighted Knives
Weighted knives can make it easier to wield a knife when you have tremors.
- Weighted Rocker Knife-looks exactly like the Rocker Knife mentioned earlier; however, it is weighted.
Cutting Boards for One Hand
Hold your food in place with the spikes and chop with one hand with the attached knife.
- One Handed-Combination Cutting Board This one also has raised corners to help with spreading.
Finger Protectors
For those occasions where you still want to use a traditional knife, protect your fingers with this device.
Spreading
Spreading and holding the item you want to spread upon can be hard to do. Cutting boards with corner guards can prevent the bread or other food from sliding off onto the floor. Some boards also have spikes that can hold the food in place.
Holding plates and cutting boards in place
It is no fun to try and cut your meat while the cutting board is scooting across the counter. A washable, portable gripping surface can be the answer.
