IPAT has been in the process of creating a Home First Showroom, in the Fargo Office, to display Assistive Technology (AT) in the natural environment. Recently, the kitchen cabinets and countertops were installed which inspired me to highlight a few of the AT items featured in our Home First Showroom Kitchen. The Derby Spill Not assists anyone who has difficulty opening jars or bottles. There are three holders with a grip inside which allow it to be used for almost anything, for example, a jar of pasta sauce, a water bottle, or even a medicine or pill container. To use it, place the jar or bottle into the appropriate sized hole and twist off the lid. This makes removing lids easy and also helps to prevent spills. To see how this is used, watch this video.
These utensils feature soft rubber handles that make them easy to grip. They can be customized to any range of motion. The spoon and fork have a twist built into the metal neck allowing them to be adjusted about 90 degrees as needed for the user. The rocker knife is made so that items can be cut with minimal force. They are dishwasher safe and lightweight making them a great solution for anyone with a weak grasp or arthritis. They also come in a weighted version which you can learn more about here.

It features a large LCD display that can be tilted to easily see the numbers on the screen while working through recipe calculations. Although made for cooking, the KitchenCalc has all the functions of an everyday calculator. Check out this video for more information.
The Swivel Peeler was the first of over 800 OXO tools introduced since 1990. OXO’s founder was inspired to create a better functioning, more comfortable alternative to the traditional metal peeler after watching his wife struggle while peeling apples for a tart.
