The RiJe Cup is an adjustable drinking cup designed for better hydration and more independence. It dispenses fluids one sip at a time for those who suffer from swallowing disorder (dysphagia), limited head and neck movement, tremor, poor coordination, and grasping difficulties, or those who are at risk of liquid aspiration.  It is easy to assemble and use.

Before the RiJe cup is filled with liquid, the portion regulator can be set to dispense amounts between 3 ml to 15 ml.  The dispensed amount can be adjusted to meet the changing needs of the user. It automatically dispenses controlled liquid portions each time it is placed in an upright position.  The next liquid portion replenishes in 2 to 3 seconds.  Users can drink from the cup’s rim or with a straw.  It has Ergonomic handles for better grip, and a cut-out to accommodate the user’s nose while keeping their chin in a neutral position.  If the cup tips over, only the allocated portion will spill out.

The cup can be used with cold or hot beverages; water, juice, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, nutritional beverages, and many more.  I tried it with water.  It was easy to set up and drink from.  Seems like it should be a staple item in every full care nursing facility!

Anyone with dysphagia, limited  movement, tremor, poor coordination/grasping, or those who are at risk of aspiration can use this cup to drink safely and independently, to secure not only proper hydration, but basic dignity as well.
