If you follow our blog and have been reading our recent posts, you know that IPAT’s annual stationary bike fundraiser, Pedaling for Possibilities (P4P), is just around the corner!   Today I want to share with you the story of a past P4P grant recipient who had big dreams that have now become a reality.
Jason using FES Bike

Hi my name is Jason Keeter, I’m 32 years old and am a C5-C6 quadriplegic. I was hurt July 25, 2010, when I dove off a dock at Lake Metigoshe in Bottineau, ND. I have no use of my lumbar area or my legs. Here’s my FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) bike that I purchased from Restorative Therapies in Baltimore, Maryland with the help of Pedaling for Possibilities, NDAD, Molstad Excavating (my former employer), my Dad, and North Dakota Medicaid Waiver.

The FES bike will help me with blood circulation, bone density, muscle mass, and range of motion. It will also help contribute to me slide board transferring on my own someday. It’s not a medical necessity, it’s for personal use to reach individual goals. This bike will help open other doors in the future. I have come a long way since my accident. I wheel myself around with a power-assist manual wheelchair, I lift weights 3 times a week, and I use my bike 3 times a week. Thank you for helping me acquire this much needed equipment. P4P has definitely helped me.

Sincerely,

Jason P Keeter
